Myths About Acne
Acne is one of the most common problems worldwide. It doesn’t just affect teenagers but it is most common amongst people between- and 20 which are also when people are generally at their most vulnerable. For this reason there are plenty of home remedies for acne that claim to get rid of the problem - unfortunately they are often based on acne myths.
Probably the most common of all the acne myths is that it is caused by eating fatty foods and especially chocolate. There isn’t any real evidence that this is the case so you shouldn’t worry about eating chocolate for acne - although it is probably best to avoid eating large quantities for your general health.
Some people do find that their acne becomes worse when they eat a certain food so keep an eye out for patterns to see whether there is anything in your diet that is causing it.
The next one is that getting a good tan can help stop you getting bad acne. This is simply not true and is actually quite easy to spot as a myth if you think carefully about it. Having a tan may reduce the appearance of acne because the spots show up less on darker skin, but that doesn’t mean that they are not there are it won’t make acne go away.
In fact, if you get a tan it may cause you to get irritated skin which can cause you to have more acne in the future as well as other problems such as skin cancer of course. Also, acne isn’t caused by not washing your skin. It isn’t caused by dirt on the skin so you shouldn’t think that washing your skin more will get rid of spots. In fact, if you wash your skin too much you may cause irritation of the skin and hence more breakouts. Don’t scrub too hard or you could cause many more problems than you had originally.
Also, don’t think that washing your skin lots of times a day will solve your acne problems! Washing your face too much can cause irritation and dry skin which can actually make you have more spots rather than solving the problem. Wash your face once or twice a day at the most.
